Bard College Dorm Reviews

Rueger is one of the dorms on south campus. It is part of the collection nicknamed "The Old Toasters." The dorm is an all women's dorm. I resided there during my first year in college. It was usually very quiet and clean. I was in a double, and the room was spacious and lit brightly. It was also close to RKC where I had my science classes early morning so it was nice to be nearby. One of the issues with the dorm was that there were three floors but no elevator. I had a dorm on the third floor, so it was a challenge to take all of my belongings upstairs to the room. The other downside is that the common room is a bit bare and the kitchen is tiny. There is a table and a sofa so people could gather. Nonetheless, it was a great experience. more

Cruger Hall is a freshman dorm, however, there are single rooms for upperclassmen. The dorm is pretty noisy and some residents do not clean up after themselves (in bathrooms and the kitchen). Many of the staff as a result have to clean up the messes made by these residents. There is also an issue of taking other people's things from the community refrigerator. There is also an issue of residents from Cruger and the surrounding dorms getting together outside and having parties on the weekends especially. I would recommend not having a room by the stairs on the second floor if you are on the north end of Cruger or by the back that faces the other dorms in Cruger Village. more

Large rooms but not the newest dorm on campus. Bathrooms shower curtains are dirty but maintenance worker comes by request and janitor comes regularly. Most of nasty stuff are by residents who don’t care as much more

It was nicknamed the toasters because of the way they resembled a row of toasters. We had the best students, an amazing location so everyone wanted to be there and a perfect size and space. I was so lucky to be there. more

I really appreciate how central to campus the location is. it is really close to most classrooms as well as the dining options on campus, the gym is a five minute walk. The rooms have a good amount of storage and great windows. more

Robbins Addition is a great dorm for students who care to be on Bard College's North Campus. It is very close to the Fisher Center of Performing Arts and Manor Cafe. The rooms are pretty large and nice to live in. People tend to play music outside which can be heard inside the rooms. It also has an okay kitchen located in the basement. more

I like living at Tweksbury. It's an older building but has great views and is in a central location on campus. Would be better if there was less required social distancing but students make it work and enjoy spending time together. more

It was fine overall. Keen is not the best form at Bard, nor the worst. Keen has AC and single-use bathrooms. Although the bathrooms do get gross and clogged quite easily because people are not very good at maintaining public spaces. The kitchens get gross too because never don’t clean up after themselves usually. It’s about 10 minutes walk from center of campus. more

The best word to describe my experience in Robbins is "distance." The dorm is situated at the extremities of the relatively medium-size campus of Bard. Consequently, it substantially adds more time and effort to the distance between the dorm and the majority of educational facilities at Bard. In short terms: you need to walk a lot, which is not per se a negative, particularly if you are of the athletic type. Yet, the highly variable weather of Upstate New York makes walking an exhausting process: some days you deal with just snow, others with snow and rain, and in some rare occasions with the triad of snow, rain, and speedy winds. Yet, because Robbins is relatively alienated from the rest of the campus, it is usually quiet, which allows you to "feel" more connected to the beautiful nature of Upstate New York. There is a constant bucolic feeling that emanates from Bard, and living in Robbins reconnects you with those natural elements that are almost non-existent in larger metropolitan areas. Due to the its silence, you can hear the sound of the wind, birds and other animals. In terms of the amenities, there is a common washing machine room and bathrooms. Only a few dorms have individual bathrooms, so you will need to share them with the plethora of students that live in your dorm. The issues with this system are evident: you will need to negotiate the hygiene of your peers in the groupchats of your dorm section. Don´t be afraid to call someone out, although it would be preferable if you do it in private, and if this is not possible, to do it without mentioning a specific name. Lastly, there are two common areas depending in your section. The area of my section was relatively quiet and nice: there was a billar table, a T.V., and a bookshelf of free books! (the best part). more
