Rancourt Hall Dorm Reviews at Central Maine Community College

The Rancourt building at CMCC is co-ed, which means that all genders are accepted. Two people of the same gender are placed in a room together, and they have a shared bathroom with another two of the same gender. This is fantastic, as you get to make friends with at least 3 people, and you have a bathroom that is shared with a limited amount of people. You get to choose your dorm roommate and your bathmates when you fill out a housing application, which is what I have done for all of my semesters here. Personally, I really love the setup of the dorm rooms. Each student gets a bed that rises really high off the ground (if you want it too), and there is potential for lots of storage space under it. I fit lots of totes and a 3 drawer storage unit, as well as my laundry basket and all of my shoes under my bed. My roommate stores her mini fridge under hers, as well as a large snack bin and some other things. There are also two large desks in the room with 3 drawers in each, plus an extra pull out drawer for laptops, tablets, or notebooks. Each room also has two big wardrobes with storage space, a place to hang clothes, and two drawers. Every room has at least one window, but if you have a corner room, you will have two. Each window comes with blinds. The bathroom is in between your room and the next room over, you will both have privet doors to enter the shared room. The toilet and shower are both in their respective stalls, meaning that there is privacy if more than once person needs to be in there at a time. In the bathroom, there is also two sinks and a good amount of counter space. Under the counter there is also open storage. space. The dorm building itself is 4 stories, with the first floor having a very small lobby/lounge area. This is where the microwaves are found. The RD's room, RA office, and laundry room are also located here. There is an elevator that goes to each one of the floors. On the forth floor, there is a big room with lots of tables in chairs in it that is called "TreeTops". This space can be used by anyone at anytime. Many use it for studying, hanging out with groups of friends, playing card games, or DnD. We even had a small Halloween party with my friends up there once, which was very fun. TreeTops does not close, but quiet hour for the whole building starts at 11:00pm, so make sure to keep the noise level lower unless you want an RA coming in and telling you to stay quiet. Accommodations can be made for students with disabilities, or if they need a single room. Service animals are absolutely allowed, in fact, my bathmate has a kitty named Bean that is registered as an emotional support pet. I have another friend on the fourth floor in the same situation, but her cat's name is Socks. Being an RA (residential assistant), is also an option for students living in the dorm. This gives you free housing, but it takes up a lot of time, as it is a job. I have many friends taking this opportunity, and it has been amazing for them. You have to go through training and work on weekends, but the free housing perk definitely makes it worth it. Overall, I have absolutely loved living in the dorms. It is right next to the main academic building, which is great, and there are a lot of opportunities to make a lot of friends and be academically successful. The last note I will make is actually a recommendation, one that can probably be applied to many dorms and universities. Even if you don't drink coffee, a Kurig will in fact be your best friend. There is a surprising amount you can do with a Kurig. Coffee is great, but you can also make other hot drinks like hot cocoa, lattes, and teas. In addition, you can make ramen noodles right in your dorm, or other meals that require almost boiling water, I suppose. Ramen is cheap, and when you can make it right in your dorm room, the deal just gets even better. I have had an amazing time at CMCC and in Rancourt, and I hope that this little essay will inspire someone to take the leap and apply to live on campus.
