Briles Hall Dorm Reviews at ECU

I lived in Briles Hall for two years. My first room was in better shape than my second room, but it was much noisier since it was closer to the entrance. The shower in my second room was very inconsistent. I love how Briles is in the same building as the cafeteria and the bookstore. It is also close to the library and University center. If I were to live on campus again, I would choose Briles hall. Despite the issues with cleanliness and maintenance, it is a convenient place to live.

Briles is an older dormitory which means it isn't as nice as the new Chokka-Choffa dorm that was just built, but it is affordable and a safe place to live. I didn't like the shower because the floor of it was hard to clean, so I would definitely recommend wearing flipflops or sandals while you shower. However, I did enjoy having a personal bathroom that was just shared with my roommate and suitemates, rather than a community bathroom used by the whole floor. Noise carries through the hall so you have to be careful not to make too much noise especially during quiet hours, and it can be hard to study in your dorm room sometimes when people nearby get too loud.

Briles Hall is pretty different. The rooms are way nicer than the actual halls. I was in pontotoc first and I am really glad I moved to Briles. The location is perfect. I do wish there were better common areas to hangout and meet people. One thing I wish was different is the doors little vents at the very bottom. It lets all conversations, music, maintenance cleaning, anything to echo through the door into your room. Those are my only two complaints! :)

I live in Briles hall and it tends to be moderately quiet in the morning but once the afternoon hits it can get loud. It's karaoke night for other people every night. The only thing keeping me in the dorms is how close it is to the campus.

The floors need to be redone, most of the bathroom sinks/showers leak or drip constantly, the paint is peeling off the walls and closet doors won't open. All in all it is a good first dorm and cheap especially when financial aid helps cover it. The walls are "thick" but it's still really noisy. The elevator works 1/3 of the time. The location is prime though, it is the closest to all classroom buildings, the UC is right across the way and the cafeteria, bookstore, and ballroom are in the same building.
