Overall, University Place is a good dorm, however, it has a lot of issues. The fire alarm panel on the first floor was malfunctioning the entire time I resided in University Place. Multiple times a day, usually for hours at a time, the panel would beep loudly. For residents whose rooms are by the panel it is almost impossible to stay asleep when the panel goes off at three, four, and five o’clock in the morning. Maintenance and Housing knew about the malfunctioning panel and failed to do anything about it, endangering students. Other than the fire panel the U was generally a good environment, there was the occasional overpowering smell of weed and rowdy residents but that comes with most college dorms. The lock to my suite never worked right preventing me and my roommates from being able to safely lock the door and keep people out. Even after bringing this issue to the RA and Housing’s attention, the lock never was replaced or repaired.
