Lothrop Hall Dorm Reviews at PITT

Lothrop Hall is very comfortable. I am lucky to be placed in a single dorm. However, my main complaint is the lack of air conditioning and the wind tunnels. The wind tunnels cause doors to slam and the no AC is brutal on hot days.

It was a nice place to live while studying at the University. It is the only dorm on campus that had a sink in the rooms and they were all singles, so I didn't have to worry about having a roommate. It was also Co-ed, so males would be on one side of the floor and females would be on the other. Each floor only had one RA.

Stayed there for the quiet of having a single. Really enjoy having a little sink in my room for brushing my teeth and other things. No Ac is a big downside in the hot early fall and spring months, bring lots of fans. Staff always pretty friendly and the dorm offers a lot of amenities that other dorms donβt have (the back deck, kitchens, spacious laundry room). The public bathrooms on the first floor are pretty much private because no one goes into them ever.

Lothrop is a good dorm overall. It is affordable. However, it is noisy. It is by the hospital so the noise of the helicopters and sirens can be distracting at times. The building is kept clean. However it can get really hot because the building is not air conditioned which was the biggest negative for me. The walls are pretty thin so you have to be careful to keep your TV and music low, and to keep your voice down on the phone if you don't want people to hear your conversations. The fan system does a pretty good job at providing a noise blocker, but when the fan is not on during winter the thin walls becomes a problem. The building is relatively close to Towers so you have access to The Eatery, but it is located on a steep hill. The bathrooms were kept clean on my floor. One negative is that maintenance was slow sometimes at replacing the paper towels and soap when we ran out. Despite those few negatives, the overall environment in terms of residents and safety within the building was good.
