Placer Hall Dorm Reviews at Mines

Placer hall was more of an apartment style dorm with not much to complain about. It hosted multiple study areas on different floors and a couple kitchens that were available for anyone to use. However, the walls and floor are all concrete and the facility was not very homey.

Placer is the sophomore dorm building at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and it's definitely a step up from the freshman dorms. There's plenty of space, even in the double study quads. There's a large kitchen or common area on every floor, so there's plenty of room to cook and study without needing to go outside, which is a plus during these odd COVID semesters we've been having. Though the noise can sometimes become a bit much - I live, and more importantly sleep, directly against the back half of the kitchen wall on my floor, and sounds and smells carry easily - I'd say I've had an overall positive experience living here this year.
