Butler Hall Dorm Reviews at Texas State

First impression -- dated, unclean, smaller then what thought but it had alot of potential to make it better. The dorm room -- 3rd floor is extremely cold. The beds are less then par, mattress are less then desirable.

Butler Hall is not a good dorm. For one, it is the oldest dorm at Texas State University. Everything is almost falling apart from the bathroom and laundry area. Since my first day at the dorm, I had an ac leak which never got fixed no matter what we asked. Even though the price is reasonable and the location is very reliable especially for classes because most of that is towards that side it isn't reliable when it comes to anything else. For example to get to the LBJ hall or getting to the rec you have to be able to sacrifice making a big walk up the hill. It's good exercise but when it is really hot outside that walk could be troubling. Regardless of the case the RA's and workers at butler are very kind and try their best to help with everything unfortunately the building has just been there for a long time which makes it harder to fix certain things.

It was a very shocking experience I made friends but there was not alot of sanitation in the building. I saw roaches every other day and when I went to use the bathrooms they were not always clean. It taught me to always keep my area clean.

The culture of the dorm is one of acceptance and diversity, which allows for a very wonderful atmosphere. However, there have been instances of males going to females' rooms and attempting to break in and instances of unknown individuals attempting to break in from outside of the dorm via residents' windows. The location in juxtaposition to campus buildings is quite pleasant, however with the consideration of off campus amenities, it is located nearby a handful of various bars and intoxicated people are too familiar.

Butler hall is extremely close to the main parts of campus, which makes it easily accessible to classes and university events along with dining halls and the library. Although Butler Hall can have some issues due to its proximity to downtown San Marcos, its very fortunate and comes with many perks.
