Noordewier-VanderWerp Hall Dorm Reviews at Calvin

I am a sophomore at Calvin but this was my first year staying Noordewier- VanderWerp Hall and I would definitely recommend this hall to upcoming students. They have policies set in place where past certain hours the halls must be quiet which was nice for me because it allowed me to study and go to bed at reasonable times. With COVID-19 I think some things could have been different, for example, I felt confined to my room almost all the time. I realize that this is for the best in order to not spread germs but I also found it hard to focus on my learning because I was in the same place all the time. I like to change my surroundings it helps me mentally. Other than that I have no problems staying in Noordewier- VanderWerp because they really do a great job at including everyone in all the activities they do.

Noordewier Hall has quickly become home for me. From the moment I moved in, I felt extremely welcomed by all of the staff, residence hall leaders, and students. I feel safe living in this building, and I know there are wonderful people working hard to keep our living spaces exceptionally clean, and I am thankful for that! This dorm is the definition of community. I have been challenged to go out of my comfort zone and meet new people, participate in college events, and hold my room mates, suit mates, and dorm mates accountable in their goals. I was very impressed by the way in which the staff handled the precautions necessary due to COVID-19. With these, I felt safe and remained healthy. I really enjoy living in Noordewier-VanderWerp Hall, and I wouldn't trade my first semester living there for the world!

NVW is a homey place with great people and a great location! Even during a pandemic, the staff and residence have been so welcoming and encouraging. It is close to the dining hall and the fitness center as well.
