Ellis Hall Dorm Reviews at Castleton

During my stay at Ellis Hall I had someone break into my room through my window during the winter break. with them leaving the room a mess with all my belongings thrown around not how I left it looking during the break.

Elis Hall was a great hall to be in for my college experience. I had the amazing opportunity to make new friends and meet new people. It was overall very welcoming. I will recommend this hall to others

Ellis is a decent dorm. Like the rest of our dorms to enter you have to scan your student ID at the front door. Only students who live in this specific dorm will be able to access it with their ID. The common room is very plain with a few chairs and a large bean bag with a TV. Across from there is a smaller common room with a pool table that is connected to the kitchen. The kitchen is barely used but also outdated, there are no pots and pans, the sink is small, and the oven is missing the numbers on the dial so you have to kinda guess the temperature. There is a refrigerator and that’s used by the whole building for students who may not have room to keep the food in their rooms. There are four floors, with the 1st and 3rd being boys only and the 2nd and 4th for girls. Each floor has their own communal bathrooms. The bathrooms are cleaned and restocked every weekday during the morning, although sometimes we have gone days where we are without paper towels and toilet paper. There is a RA for every floor and a Hall director, which is an RA that is over the whole building. When in need of a maintenance problem you can tell any RA, though you should probably contact the one on duty, and they will either send out a form to the school, contact the janitors or call public safety. The location of Ellis in my opinion is convenient, it’s beside the library and just a bit closer to classrooms than most dorms.

Ellis Hall is a solid start for incoming freshman, however many issues go unrectified for several months. There has been a dead bat in the first floor kitchen window that was there since I started living at this dorm to the very last day. I have asked this to be rectified several times to no avail.

It is nice to have a dorm that is not heavily populated and on top of the hill to overlook campus. Though it is difficult to get to in the snow it is worth the trek as you will most of the time have quite nights and not a lot of people to make more noice.
