The University Center Dorm Reviews at Columbia

My experience at The University Center has been overwhelmingly positive! The dorms are spacious, modern, and allow for a lot of creativity in the way that the rooms are set up! The amenities are another big plus, my favorites being the gym, music practice rooms, and the Market!

Attending Columbia College Chicago, and living in the University Center has been one of the best experiences of my life. The rules of the building are natural and simple. The security and and staff are very friendly and usually can share a nice conversation or laugh. If it says enough, I'm living there again for year 2!

The guest check-in process and lock-out procedures certainly need work. When checking in guests you must have a state ID but not all my friends had their licenses so they would not be allowed inside vs. the other buildings which only required a school ID. The lock-out process is unforgiving and costly. After 3 lock-outs you have to pay 50 dollars each time you are locked out which to me is not fair at all. Some staff was nice but others truly only did the bare minimum and were not kind.

My dorm room was cozy and just the right size. Enough room to study, sleep, and occasionally pace. The building was right in the heart of Chicago. Looking out my window every day was a magical expirience.

As a dorm experience goes, the University Center was pretty good. Living in a tiny suite with a roommate and then with four people total sharing one bathroom...not so good. I had fun because of the people I met, but I did move out early.

The UC is generally well taken care of. My one complaint would be that in comparison to the other dorms Columbia offers, it feels a bit like living in a hotel. The other dorms are more home-y, or have some more interesting amenities.

Have had no problems so far. Look forward to using the rest of the amenities, when they open back up. Security is top-notch. Alarm buttons and security cameras on basically every other wall. There is no way, I could have any emergenices or incidents, and not have an eyewitness...

During my freshman year I lived in the UC and it was a great building for a freshman. The UC is a shared building so you have students from 2 other colleges in the surrounding area living in the space. Originally I'm not from Chicago but the staff made me feel more than welcomed. My RA's were awesome, I could tell they really cared about making incoming freshman feel comfortable. I remember going down to the common area and seeing a bunch of different students playing pool together. Slowly I introduced myself to the group and everyone was real cool about it. During my time at the UC I made some lasting friendships that I still have to this day. Over all I don't have any complaints and I'd definitely recommend to any incoming freshman.

The University Center has apartment style dorms and suit style dorms. The apartment style has a microwave, stove, dishwasher, and some furniture that is in the room for you. You will have three roommates, but you get your own room and you only share your bathroom with one other person. The suite style has you share your room with one other person, but you have a lot of room in your dorm. The room is also connected to one other through a bath room. As long as you clean your area, the rooms are very clean and the staff at the University Center try their best to help out with anything else.
