Shorney Dorm Reviews at Denison

While the Shorney dorm sizes are quite decent most of everything else is a mess. The walls are super thin so you can hear everything even when in your dorm including quiet conversations from the hallway outside. Additionally, the kitchen which is meant to be a common area was regularly disgusting. The sink would be clogged from food and filled to the brim with other people's dirty dishes.

My experience at Shorney Hall was quite interesting to say the least. Coming into my Freshman year, I knew that Shorney had a bit of a reputation for being the "party" dorm. Knowing this I thought that I wouldn't be surprised by the things I would see, but boy was I wrong. The hallways were constantly trashed or covered in gross substances. Music was always blaring. The common areas were typically covered in trash and crumbs, especially on the weekends. Although this dorm lived up to its reputation, I would not change anything if I had to do it again. The messes, smells, and no air conditioning were certainly no fun, but I know that most of the issues were caused by the students themselves. I know that the workers tried their very best to clean up the messes, but their schedules would allow for trash to sit for days. I think that all dorms at Denison need better cleanliness standards. Weekends should not just be ignored, especially since they are when most of the messes occur. More staff need to be hired to help keep dorms, like Shorney clean and healthy for us students!

Overall, Shorney was not a terrible place to live in. My RA was extremely helpful and welcoming since this is a first-year resident building. The students living here tend to be more loud and outgoing.

I liked living in Shorney Hall. The location was great because it was close to academic quad, it had a lot of first years so it was easy to meet people in my class. The common room needed updates. The room felt spacious for being a double and the place was well taken care of.

My experience at Shorney has been relatively good. The only concern I have would be the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Other than that, I enjoy living at Shorney. It is quite close to all the spots on campus where I tend to hangout with my friends. Additionally, I found my room to be a great size for me and my roomate and enjoyed personalizing my room.

Loud. But it does have an advantage when it comes to socializing Bathroom hygiene will depend on who uses it. Common space is too small, but the location is nice. Loudness also depends on who will be together with you on the same floor.
