Ironwood Dorm Reviews at GCU

Ironwood is a freshman dorm and gives you the full freshman experience. The Ra's host lots of events and the hallways and lobbies are always clean. The building is quite far from everything else on campus, but it is with the other three freshmen buildings and gives you plenty of opportunities to interact and meet other freshmen.

When, I moved in the room didn't look like it was cleaned thoroughly. The place is kind or loud because of all the dumb freshmen playing tag and having karaoke matches past quiet hours. Also, the room didn't look like it did on the website, so that was misleading.

Ironwood has very clean dorms and the biggest dorms I have seen a college have. The layout is two rooms connected with a living room and each bedroom has two beds and one bathroom with one sink, toilet, and a shower. It is very spacious. There are windows in each room which is nice to have let some light in the rooms. There are walk in closets in each room that you share with your roommate. On each floor there are lobbies which are nice to relax in and there are multiple study rooms on each floor incase you need to study late while your friends are hanging out.

My experience at ironwood was great and the RAs and RDs were fantastic and helpful people. Also the place was quiet most of the time and studying inside the dorm was nice since people were very respectful about letting people study for test or exams.

Ironwood is a freshman dorm far away from the rest of the campus but it is near three other freshman dorms and feels like it's own community. The only major complaint I would have would be the lack of control the RA's have over the noisy students and the distance from classes.

As a current and upcoming former resident of Ironwood Hall, I definitely recommend living in this dorm space as a freshman in college. As this is where many freshmen reside for their first year, it is highly likely for you to find your best friends for the next years of college to come! As the living areas are spacey, they allow for adequate storage as well as enough personal space without getting too overcrowded. The beds are adjustable and your area comes with your own personal dresser, desk, and small storage desk. For the cleanliness in your rooms, that will depend on who you room with but the faculty do an excellent job of making sure the walking spaces and common areas such as open rooms along the halls, study rooms, or the main lobby, are clean and nice to relax in. Although the location is a good five-minute walk from the school restaurants, it still resides close enough to classroom buildings as well which is easy access for many freshmen as they are getting the hang of navigating the campus. It is in a safer part of campus as it is closely monitored by campus security even though it is across from a neighborhood and the park. As for the noise, the hallways are sometimes louder over the weekends but it gets quiet at night. The floors are a bit hollow so you can hear people walking above you but other than it being a normal freshman dorm, it is pretty quiet. The staff are very respectful and treat you more as a friend rather than upholding themselves as authority figures too much. They handle conflict or issues well and are available for chatting or bringing up any issues within the dorm or its maintenance. They also uphold strict 12 pm curfew policies with visitation hours which is nice for those students who like to sleep in peaceful environments.

I lived in Ironwood for my freshman year at GCU. It is a part of the Grove, which is typically freshman housing. Being in this area is a good way to meet other freshman and the dorms are a great size.

Ironwood hall is an ideal place to live at GCU. It is the freshman dormitories and is ideally located next to a pool and field. GCU strategically places all of its living quarters in well-populated areas. The building is up to date and is cleaned frequently (I see them cleaning when I go to my 7am). Maintenance is quick to respond and the RDs are easy to talk to. It is a bit noisy due to the party freshman, but I'm sure it's like that most places. Overall, GCU's Ironwood dormitory is a great place to live for the reasons above

I lived in Ironwood my freshmen year of college, and I wish I can go back and relive it because it was one of the best years yet. There were always events going on in the freshmen fields, lobby, on each floor. It made it easy for me to come out of my shell and socialize.

Loved it! Great community atmosphere. View of the pool from the 6th floor. I looked west and saw the beautiful Arizona sunset over the valley every night. Staff was pleasant, RAs were great! Only one other roommate, and shared bathroom with one other.

Ironwood is a dorm for underclassmen, mainly freshmen. Living with underclassmen has been a good experience as a current freshman, giving me the opportunity to meet up with others my age. The dorm is clean and new, and if there is anything wrong with facilities, maintenance comes and fixes it. Compared to other universities, these dorms were one of my reasons for picking GCU over other colleges

Ironwood hall has been home for the past three months and I have had the best experience. Grand Canyon University offers top living areas even for freshman, which I really appreciate especially not being from Arizona. Ironwood hall is a home away from home, the dorms have exceeded my expectations. Our buildings are constantly clean thanks to the amazing staff. I am appreciative of the hall and living spaces of Ironwood.

Ironwood is a great dorm for first time students! I am so blessed to have my own bathroom and not have to use a community bathroom. The only downfall is the location is far from the main part of campus.

I absolutely loved living in Ironwood. It was so great being in a community of all freshmen that are pumped to be at GCU. My dorm was so clean and nice. The common area was awesome. Ironwood is my favorite of all the dorms in the grove.

Ironwood Hall is a good place for freshmen to meet other freshmen. There are events each month that encourage building residents to connect with each other. In addition, there are events that are exclusively for your floor. It is clear that staff want to foster good relationships between neighbors.

I’m a RA in ironwood the maintenance man is very kind and does an amazing job in keeping the build very clean and sanitize. Being a staff door the building has been amazing close to our building we have a very walkable lopes mart which is a mini grocery store. The walk to campus food isn’t that long and has a nice outlook on the whole campus. The top floors have the best sunset view of Arizona and the AC system is the best for hot Arizona.

The dorm itself was great, though the RA I had was not willing to deal consequences when rules were broken, meaning that a lot people got away with things that should not have. Most if not all of my troubles were roommate related, not dorm related. However, I do not recommend getting into a triple dorm. Go with a double or a single, it's worth the extra money.
