Goodwin Hall Dorm Reviews at GSC

Goodwin has been very good to me as I have been very lucky to get a single dorm. There are a couple of things here and there that could definitely be improved upon. A couple of weeks ago, we had our water shut off for a week because of pipe issues and it took them a while to get us access to showers or even toilets so the restrooms were being used even though they should not have been used. Also, I feel they could update the dorms. They are a bit old fashioned and I was talking to an alumni from 30 years ago and she said the dorms have not changed one bit. That is a bit discouraging to me as the dorms have had no improvements. On the other hand, Goodwin is very lively. It is very much a surfer crowd which I love. They host a lot of events like Goodwin karaoke night and the Halloween Bash and the Residential directors are so sweet and kind.

I have been living in this place for quite some time now, and I must say that it has been an incredible experience. The neighbors are some of the friendliest people I have ever met, and they are always willing to lend a helping hand whenever I need it. The Resident Assistants (RAs) are also amazing. They are always available to answer any questions I may have, and they go out of their way to make sure that all residents are comfortable and happy. Moreover, the Resident Director (RD) is an excellent guide and mentor to all of us living here. They take great care in ensuring that everything runs smoothly, and they are always approachable when we need their assistance. Living here has also presented me with a unique opportunity to make lifelong friends. I have had the pleasure of bonding with so many wonderful people, and I look forward to creating even more meaningful relationships during my time here.

This is my first year and I still haven’t moved in. I’m taking the survey based on several of my upcoming classmates. My move in day is August 7, 2023. With the tour and the time I’ve spent visiting I can agree with this recommendation.

Everything, as far as the dorm on campus, is pretty mediocre. Its a good dorm and I think its better than river front. Its also directly on campus. So, as far as it goes, I like it alright. I like Pioneer Village a bit more but its not on campus and requires a shuttle to get there which is inconvenient so, in that way, good win is better. I've also been told the laundry at Goodwin is better.

Goodwin Hall is well-equipped to house students and provide them with a valuable experience while residing there . The staff are friendly and are willing to help when you have a problem. Maintenance is understaffed, so response times for certain problems may be delayed.

Overall my experience has been pleasant. I have had to change rooms a few times in my first semester due to the people I was roomed with being inconsiderate of my belongings and space. Staff was very helpful in helping me move rooms and get situated.

It's a really nice place and would probably be nicer when Covid-19 isn't such a problem- all the common areas besides the laundry rooms are roped off because of social distancing. They look really nice and useful though! The laundry rooms are nice but a little small, and there's 1-2 on each floor, depending on what floor you're on. I've heard that the third floor has bad WiFi reception, but the 6th floor, which I was on, has good reception. All in all, it was a wonderful experience even with Covid. The only thing that I can say bad about it is that the walls are a little thin so if you get stuck next to a noisy suitmate or person in the room that isn't connected (You share a bathroom with the person/people on one side of you, and a wall with the one on the other) then you can hear them, and that the only elevator to the 6th floor was out for almost a month. They do a lot of activities in the dorms and out around campus, so there's usually something fun to do.

Goodwin Hall has a great staff that will help you if needed. The amenities in the dorms were very reliable. The WiFi leaves a bit to be desired, but an Ethernet cable should fix that issue for the most part.
