Gifford Hall Dorm Reviews at James Madison

Gifford Hall has been an incredibly comfortable experience. The dorm itself (a triple room) is very spacious and has a large window that opens to allow air in. The air conditioning units work quite well and the beds it comes with are versatile.

Gifford was an upgraded dorm compared to others at the time, so I felt lucky to be there. However, it was a gamble I feel, because my suite mates, which were connected to my bathroom were not the best to live which, whom I could not control. I had a great roommate, so luckily it balanced out. However, it was on the total end of campus compared to the other, which was difficult at times when I needed to get to a class on the other side. It was nice being on the main side though. It is unfortunate only older students get to live there now. Overall I would still recommend it. It was a beautiful building to live in, despite the small difficulties of it, more regarding regular problems there are with living in a dorm, like not being able to control everyone you live with in college of course. I wouldn't trade my Gifford Hall for a different place to live at all!

I had a great experience at JMU in Gifford! The location was perfect in terms of dinning halls and walking to classes. Also, there was a bus stop right behind the building which was convenient as well. Additionally, the dorm had recently been renovated so we had air conditioning (which was amazing) and nothing was too outdated. The staff was very friendly and efficient and listened to our concerns. My one complaint was that I lived right next to the head RA so we frequently got noise complaints when the people who lived above and next to us were just as loud if not louder.

the room space was great! very clean! I do wish there was more effort in getting to know hall mates by the staff but it was good overall. It was a little too quiet for me though, I would like more of a social setting. But overall was great!

I loved Gifford; it was quiet and cozy. There are pros and cons, like private on-suite bathrooms (but you have to clean them yourselves..) Walk-in closets of decent size. My roommate made was insane so I switched dorms, but other residents and staff were blessings. RAs on my floor left notes and sweets taped to my door on holidays and stressful weeks.
