Kirby Smith Hall Dorm Reviews at LSU

The parking lot was taken over by the running candidate for governor in 2015. The hall had 3 elevators and were always breaking down. The place was old and falling apart. I lived on the 11th floor and had to walk down 22 flights of stairs when the elevators broke just to get to class.

I love it’s location close to the sports arenas but can’t say much else positive about the dorm itself. The only time you need identification to get in the dorm is at the front door but even then there are people always allowing someone inside.

i stayed in kirby smith hall my freshman year at louisiana state university. it was not my first choice. kirby hall is a very old building and not much is updated. i personally hated the bathrooms. they are suite style but the bathroom has no real door. it has a public bathroom door and it does not give much privacy. the showers also were always cold with awful water pressure and the shower became clogged for no reason. i could hear people running down my hall and also hear them blare music a few dorms from me. overall was not a fan of this dorm.

Kirby Smith was a fun dorm to live in, but the safety and maintenance were awful. The bathrooms flooded often and several rooms including mine had black mold in our rooms. The elevator and front door are suppose to be guarded by a Tigercard scanner, but the scanner does not work and entering the building is possible for anyone.

Overall, it had it's ups and downs. Actually, it is pretty much all downs. The elevator gets stuck often, you can hear your neighbors entire conversation, the bathrooms are like stalls, but im just glad that I have a place to stay.

Personally at first when people mentioned Kirby it would be followed by horror stories since it is one of the oldest buildings on campus. Yet once i got there to move in i didn't have a problem with it. Sure it isn't modern but you do get a bathroom to your disposal and not have to walk towards the end of a hall to use it.
