McClain Hall Dorm Reviews at ONU

I loved my time in McClain Hall! All of the resident assistants were very sweet and the resident director was the best (like having a campus mom). The common rooms are also decorated very cute. The bathrooms were decent depending on other residents, but I think they're being updated now.

Bathrooms are decent. Rooms have a microwave/refrigerator combo unit which is really nice. Temporpedic mattresses. The worse thing was probably the musty smell in the closets. We had to get little dehumidifiers and those worked great.

The rooms are pretty small, and the building is fairly outdated, but it's not the worst. There's a kitchenette on each floor and a full kitchen in the lobby. The building is in a pretty central location on campus, so everything is easy to get to.

Unfortunately, I only have my freshman year dorms (Parrot) as a comparison. The building I'm in now is older and has some issues. Temperature wise, I'm usually very comfortable. The dorms had been closed up for a while during Covid. So, moving back in, the closets had some dampness/mildew smell issues. We had to get little dehumidifiers so that our clothes would not smell. Overall, that is probably the main issue. Everything else is pretty good.

McClain is a good place to be. If someone enjoys the dorm experience, I would recommend living here. It is small but not too small that it feels cramped. The lobby is a really nice place to hang out with friends and play games. I would recommend McClain to women who like the dorm life.

Living in McClain Hall has been a great experience overall. The building itself is older so it doesn't look modern or up to date but it serves its purpose. One thing I like about McClain is that each of the four floors in the building has a different type of common room along with there being a common area right when you walk into the building. For example, my floor has a chapel room and study room and the third floor has a tv room. Each floor has its own kitchenette and bathroom. One thing I don't like about McClain is how outdated the bathroom looks and how small two of the showers are. In addition, I wish the dorm room was bigger because it is hard to fit all the furniture they provide along with your belongings in the room. I have attached a picture of the layout of how our beds are lofted to save space in our room. McClain is a great place to live in but I would prefer to be in an apartment next year.
