Hinderlie Hall Dorm Reviews at PLU

Hinderlie groups a specific niche of people together. I would not describe it as a catch-all group that you would see in most collegiate dorms. These are band people, orchestra people, theater people, choral people, and those who associate with those groups. If these people were your jam in high school, I highly recommend it. You'll find tons of people like you in this building and on your floor. If you don't identify with this identity, I recommend applying for places like Kreidler and Ordal. Hinderlie contains a musical group and oftentimes they like to show it off. I've heard bassoons and cellos being practiced in the rooms and groups singing 'Fly Me To The Moon' on a slightly-out-of-tune guitar. The culture for the most part is a calm one. People are respectful of others' space and needs and the staffing on the floor is well-chosen to welcome everyone into the hall as well as PLU itself.

Hinderlie hall is the community of creative expression hall so it's filled with music and art students. The atmosphere is lively and vibrant. You can often hear students practicing instruments or singing in their rooms. It's one of the nicer halls on campus and is in one of the best locations on campus. The community in the hall is very open and welcoming, with the Lavender community gender inclusive wing on the first floor. I've been in many of the other halls and Hinderlie by far has the best vibe going.

As the Residential Learning Community for Creative Expression, Hinderlie houses a lot of music students. It's noisy and sometimes chaotic, but it was just what I needed to get myself out of my introverted shell! I could retreat into my room and close the door, or I could see what people were up to in the lounge, and I spent most of my free time there in the lounges watching Star Wars or playing Super Smash Bros.

It was really easy to make friends, since everyone there has some sort of interest in the arts. The RAs are really friendly and helpful too if you need someone to talk to, and there are events organized by the Resident Hall Association that are tons of fun!
