McVinney Hall Dorm Reviews at Providence

I have had a pretty good experience in McVinney Hall thus far. It is very clean and I appreciate how after a certain time it gets quiet on the floors. Being an all-girls dorm makes me feel much more comfortable. The RA's are very helpful and communicative. The cleaning staff is very accommodating and efficient.

Mcvinney Hall had smaller dorm rooms that were shared between two people. My experience there was not terrible since I had a fantastic roommate. However, the elevators were slow and old, and the showers had several issues. The showers were cold for several weeks, and it took a while for them to fix it. Mcvinney was the only dorm hall for freshmen that were doubles which is why I was assigned to Mcvinney. The location was beneficial since it was close to the gym, dining hall, and many classes.

McVinney Hall provided many opportunities to make friends as a freshman. However, the bathrooms were often moldy and not well maintained. The entire floor would also be charged if someone left a mess in a common area, which I felt was unfair because of course no one would ever admit to being the one who made the mess. Overall, the building itself was less than perfect but I had many opportunities to make friends!

I have had a great experience living in McKinney and would definitely recommend it to any incoming freshman girl. It is a clean and safe building with a lively living community. There are so many opportunities to make friends, especially with the events put on by the RAs each month. There are 12 double rooms and 10 floors so you really have the chance to make a friend everywhere you go!

So far, I've really liked McVinney! The RA is super sweet, and she always makes all the girls in the dorm feel welcome! The dorm is clean and has the perfect amount of space for all of my stuff, and I really like living here!

As a freshman resident and currently a sophomore resident assistant in McVinney Hall, I have had a pleasant experience living in the campus skyscraper for three semesters. What I love in particular about McVinney is that virtually all the rooms in the building are doubles, giving freshman the opportunity to develop a more intimate friendship with their roommate. The college atmosphere, in it of itself, is challenging to adapt to, and living with only one other person is typically a lot easier to deal with than living with a group of individuals. Additionally, the residence hall is in a prime location on campus: seconds away from the gym and main dining halls, and a short walk to the buildings most students take their prerequisite classes in. However, in my experience as an RA during the middle of a pandemic, I have found some significant flaws in both the building design and upkeep procedures. For an 11 floor building, housing over 300 girls, 2 elevators and 10 washers/driers are not sufficient; girls often find themselves arriving late to class after waiting over 20 minutes for an elevator, and taking others' clothes out of washers and driers to get their laundry done at a convenient time. The communal bathrooms on each floor are all the same: smelly and dirty. Despite daily cleaning, some residents are not always respectful of the fact that everyone on the floor shares the same bathroom. Moreover, I have never once seen the hallways, stairwells, or hall office getting cleaned in my time at Providence College. One last complaint that most students express is that McVinney is a "girls-only" dormitory. This is not to say that boys are never allowed inside the building, but in the late evening to early morning, male students are prohibited from entering the hall. Since recreation for busy college students often happens during the later hours of the day, many female students dislike this rule that Providence College is notorious for because they are not allowed to have their male friends visit their rooms.

McVinney Hall is really nice, the rooms are a good size. I wish the lounges had a TVs but other than that the lounge is cool. The kitchen is definitely a bonus and the building is usually always clean.
