Jackson-Shaver Hall Dorm Reviews at Sam Houston State University

My experience at Jackson Shaver was nice. I enjoyed my roommates and the dorm. Overall the dorm was nice the downsize was that the room and bathroom was small. The common area was nice and you were able to place games like the Wii and watch TV in the common area. Safety wise was great you could only enter the building if someone had a key to get in.

Jackson-Shaver is was a good first dorm to stay at, but I was on the fourth floor with no elevators so I do not recommend it. Everyone was nice but moving things (especially water) was very difficult.

Despite the obnoxiously loud vacuuming that happens every morning at 9AM, the dorm space itself is quite nice. Depending on if you're in the North-South wing or the East-West wing, you will have a sink and medicine cabinet in your dorm room, with the toilet and shower being shared among the 4 suitemates.

very good space, made me feel like home. The people around me made my experience amazing, especially with being my first year in college. I would recommend this dorm to anyone who is wondering where to live.

Fun would recommend for others to stay. Is an old place to live, but can still make you feel at home. I Had great times shared with my roommates and good bonds created with the people around me. Jackson made me always feel safe.

During the first month or two of residence at Jackson Shaver, there was a drug complaint. The smell was pungent and the scent traveled through multiple floors. I was surprised to hear that people on the 4th floor were able to catch a whiff of the scent when the victim was on the 2nd floor. Either way, campus security was quick to catch the victim and any related suspects. Despite this, I have had to schedule two maintenance requests, since Jackson Shaver is one of the oldest dorms on the SHSU campus, but the crew was quick to answer the next day and fix any issues I had.
