Wilbur Hall Dorm Reviews at Stanford

I spent a lot of time at Wilbur Hall, specifically in the Trancos building. I lived on the third floor. I loved the top floor because of its isolation. Generally no one would go up to the third floor unless their room was there. But of course, it did require me to climb flights of stairs everyday. The bathrooms were very clean, especially since staff cleaned it daily. There are two bathrooms on each floor. Each bathroom has at least two sinks, two showers, and two toilet stalls. The bathroom contained an additional full size mirror and open shelf space to store toiletries. I was able to dorm in my room without needing a fan just because the weather in Palo Alto was so nice. The rooms had large windows that I kept open to allow for fresh air. There was one minimal maintenance issue that came up in Wilbur Hall that was fixed within the same day which was very nice. The rooms are a good size. If you get a room that is at a corner or at the very end of the halls, you'll have one of the largest rooms just because of the way the dorms are built. Storage space for clothes was fine. There was a wardrobe, a dresser with three drawers, and a small additional dresser with two drawers. The desks were nice. They came with rolling chairs that were multifunctional as they could be taken apart and used as a rocking chair and table/foot rest. Regarding decorations, we weren't very limited. You could put up fairy lights, LED lights, posters, etc. Wilbur Hall is amazing for its neighborhood-like feel. Wilbur contains a bunch of dorms within such as Trancos, Soto, Junipero, Okada, etc. My room did not have carpet which I enjoyed. Many rooms do have carpet, but vacuum cleaners are easily accessible. There are PLENTY of bike racks that are available for use. And there is a bike shop where you can get a bike or any additional equipment. The only hassle about these dorms would be doing laundry. Since I was on the third floor, I had to carry my laundry up and down tons of stairs. Laundry was located in a basement. I never had any problems with the laundry machines. The effort that was required to do my laundry was a bit much. The dining hall is located at the center of Wilbur Hall. It was alright. There is plenty of seating. Wilbur Hall is right next to two fields. One field has a small mini outdoor gym, a basketball court/skate park, and two beach volleyball courts. Wilbur Hall is a short bike ride or walk away from Green Library, one of the gyms, and the Quad.

The people inside the building were pretty nice though the showers could have been better. Because of its area, it is close to most of my classes, friends from other dorms and dining halls as well. Wilbur Hall's food is also amazing.

Not the cleanest dorm on campus, but a cozy space perfect for bonding with other first-years and building a community. Dorms are predominantly one-room doubles, but sharing a room with a roommate your first year can be a special experience. It was for me.
