Ytterboe Hall Dorm Reviews at St. Olaf

Living in a pod is such a great experience. It's a great way to live close to a lot of friends, and you have a lot of freedom to decorate and make your pod feel like home. I lived in a double and though the storage space was a bit limited I would recommend it.

I lived here my Junior year and it was by far my favorite dorm - the pods allow plenty of communal living space, there's great common areas, and a huge lawn out front! It's the kind of dorm that everyone fights to be in because of its location (close to the gym and several academic halls), its community (lots of opportunities for socializing), the sports (volleyball in the spring/fall, broomball in the winter), and size (there are pods where you can live with a lot of your friends, and the rooms are big!). I loved it there :)

Ytt is a fun place to live. The common space in the dorm is nice for parties and just hanging out with the 9 other people you live with. There is always a quite place to study in Ytt. Usually there is no one else even in the study room either. There are some private bathrooms on each floor or some shared. The shared ones have two curtains so you can change without being in the shower which is nice. Usually upperclassmen find themselves in Ytt so there is a lot of recycling on the weekends, if you catch my drift. Something that sucked with Ytt was that people constantly made the fire alarms go off in the night because they burn their popcorn or something. But otherwise it’s a pretty chill place to live. Just try and get a room that doesn’t face the broom ball area.

Very clean, good quality. Rooms are spacious for the most part and updated in terms of carpeting, plumbing, electricity, etc. Most rooms get good sunlight, and the pod set up allows for people to be really close to friends but have their own space.
