Ellingson Hall is probably the best freshman dorm at St. Olaf. The rooms are all doubles but decently spacious. There is an elevator, it’s a little slow but convient. The bathrooms are probably the best for freshman dorms and are cleaned every weekday morning. more

Ytterboe Hall

Living in a pod is such a great experience. It's a great way to live close to a lot of friends, and you have a lot of freedom to decorate and make your pod feel like home. I lived in a double and though the storage space was a bit limited I would recommend it. more

Mellby Hall

Mellby is a quiet dorm in an excellent location in the middle of campus. The bathrooms are well maintained and have adequate privacy. The dorms are good sized for doubles. The east side can get rather warm, and there is no AC, so September can be hot, but never cold in winter. There are some accessibility issues as there is no elevator. The lounges have the most comfortable couches on campus and the ambiance fits the old timey exterior of the building. more

Larson Hall

Larson is a dorm with very thin walls and floors. The movement of other residents echoes loudly throughout the halls and through the floors. Even though the bathrooms are nice, they are not very clean. On the other hand, Larson is a perfect location for a dorm. It is only a quick 5-minute walk to the dining hall, easy access to the tunnels to the science buildings, and about an 8-minute walk to the athletic facility. more

Thorson Hall

Thorson Hall is typically considered an upperclass dorm. In previous years, it has occupied mostly Second and Third Year students. Although Thorson Hall is located "far" from academic buildings, it is close to the football field and leads into Northfield. Overall, it is a clean dorm hall and rooms are not small. more
