Kearney Hall Dorm Reviews at UC Davis

Freshman year was definitely my best year at UC Davis. I made friends with lots of people in my building and in other dorm buildings. I wish I could be in a similar situation again. The proximity to all my engineering classes was also a huge bonus.

The first day I stepped into Kearney Hall, I loved it! Everyone is so welcoming and extremely kind. I also feel really safe in my dorm because we need to swipe our cards to access the building and our room. It is such a calming environment that I can do my homework without any distributions. Our community advisor is also someone we can go to if we ever need anything. We have virtual events due to Covid-19, but they are fun. We all get to know each other and don't feel lonely. I honestly really like it here, and so far, I haven't gotten homesick.

I loved how it was a living learning community! It was awesome to meet people that were in the same major as me, it makes the college transition a lot easier. I enjoyed seeing the cleaning lady daily because she was so nice; she always kept our bathrooms and buildings clean!

Kearney Hall is the oldest dorm building in Tercero. Compared to the other dorms, it is a lot more crowded with narrower halls, dimmer lights, and more traditional and not as nice bathrooms. However, there is a communal kitchen on the first floor which the other dorms don't have which makes it convienient for residents to cook their own meals or make their own food if the dining commons or markets are closed. A downside to living here which I did not like however is that there is only one water refilling station in the whole dorm which is located on the first floor, which is not that convienient.

Physically, Kearney hall was not as up to date as the other dorm halls on the UC Davis campus as the hallways were narrower and overall darker than the others. Also, there were so many rooms on my floor that I didn't even know most of the people living on the same floor as me. One thing I didn't like was that there was only one water station on the bottom floor, so I had to take the elevator down every single time I wanted to refill my water. However, I liked that our dorm had a kitchen so it was easy to make food for ourselves whenever the dining commons or food markets were closed.
