Johnson Hall Residence Dorm Reviews at UMKC

I enjoyed my stay in these dorms during a dance intensive. They felt spacious and clean with plenty of room to hang out, do homework, and relax at night. I also enjoyed the private bathroom connecting the two sides.

Johnson Hall is a pretty standard for a dorm. It has all the essentials, and often does get maintenance. Maintenance goes by pretty quickly, and they often ask students to notify the front desk when maintenance is needed. They are constantly putting up flyers for events, and periodically they will host an event at the dorm.

Johnson Hall is a dormitory specifically made for only freshmen at UMKC. The dorm is quite small and tight, though it provides free laundry machines, detergent, and a communal kitchen. I enjoyed having suite mates and believed it was beneficial to be in a hall full of people in the same class as you.

I spent about one and a half semesters in Johnson Hall (my second was cut short due to COVID), I enjoyed my time in the hall and have few complaints outside of the cost. My roommates and suitemates were extremely kind, any maintenance issues were fixed relatively quickly. The hall is located at the bottom of a hill which the rest of campus sits on, walking to other parts of campus from the hall can get extremely tiresome and tedious, however there are elevators in the parking garage nearby that help with that. Overall I would have preferred to live in the Oak Street Hall, but Johnson Hall was perfectly fine.

Johnson Hall is one of the best dorms to stay at your freshman year for it to be the oldest dorm on campus. I like that they had multiple lounge spots and they weren’t very strict on guest like other schools at so my friends from could visit me.

I would explain my experience at Johnson Hall to be a fun one. Although the toilet has came up a couple times and the sink threw up something, the maintenance was there in less than 5 minutes. It didn't happen twice either. The staff are super friendly and there are always online gathering for fun games and movie nights.

Beautiful residential hall and the staff is so helpful! Great pick for your first year in college. I had an amazing experience and would recommend this hall to anyone in need of dorms at UMKC at any time!

Overall my experience at Johnson Hall Residence has been good. I don’t like how you have to swipe your school ID at every entrance and elevator in order to use it though. The staff has been okay, they have lost a few of my packages.

I really like staying on campus in the dorms. It is pretty spacious in terms of living space and storage space. I live in a 4-person suite and there have not been any problems. Especially during this pandemic, the RAs have done a wonderful job in making sure we abide by social-distancing rules and that all common spaces are sanitized. Also, if you need to place a work order, you get assistance pretty fast! In addition, there are multiple checkpoints for security, so you do not have to worry! Overall, Johnson Hall Residence is beautiful!
