Balch Hall Dorm Reviews at Cornell

The rooms can be massive and the lounges are stunning. The walls are thin however so it can get very loud even when people do mundane things. The bathrooms are nice and the kitchens are convenient but not very well kept. There aren't many parties which is a plus depending on what you prefer.

Balch was great! Very quiet and in a great location for freshmen. The residents were all very kind, and the staff made everyone feel welcome. I really enjoyed all the maintenance staff and found the building to always be in great condition!

I am typing this the year before it is completely renovated, so things will change. I will only comment on aspects that probably wont change that much. It is very nice that it is an all girls dorm, much quieter than other dorms. This quietness comes at a cost: its not very social. Balch Hall contains Carols Cafe which is a nice place to grab a quick bagel and coffee on your way to class.

I love the location of Blach because it is one of the closest north campus, freshman dorms to central campus. I dislike the bathrooms and I wish it was cleaned a little better. I also dislike that it is a female-only dorm.

overall, the dorm is fairly old. However, the sink rooms are very convenient. Additionally, there is very easy access to the Tatkon Center and a cafe right in the building. There are also pianos in the various common rooms.

I love being in an all female dorm because everyone understands what you're going through as a woman in a male dominated society. Everyone is so encouraging and uplifting which makes for a really safe space.

It doesn't feel like an all girl's dorm and is quiet enough to study. The lounges are beautiful and you guy's can host a variety of get-together.It is the closest to Central and when you're pre-med taking chem, you barely have to walk a block.
