Madison Hall Dorm Reviews at GWU

This dorm had a great location. I was on the first floor so unfortunately there were fewer students because rooms were taken up as office space. Upper floors are better. We had a huge room and a shared bathroom. Our room was up against the building dumpster, which wasn’t great. Control over our AC was great too.

It's in a great location on campus which I really value! The rooms are big too. It's close to Gelmen Library which is a huge bonus as residents can get their studying down closely and residents can be noisy in the dorms if they want to.

I think I was beyond lucky to spend my first year at Madison Hall. Having a private bathroom, a closet, and a decently sized room was amazing compared to other freshman dorms. The building is kind of old, but that also has its own charm. There aren't any fancy common areas like Thurston, but I still think Madison is the best freshman dorm overall.

At Madison it’s not all the best it’s a little run down here and there. The rooms aren’t best either the walls are really thin so you can hear everyone else. Not to mention that my bathroom doorknob was falling off the hinges. Also my friend ran into a homeless man when he was taking out the trash.

Personally I think Madison is a great residence hall, the RA's are great and I even have made some friends there. But sometimes It takes a while to get things fixed. During the Fall semester between my roommate and I we submitted about 3 what they call "Fix-It-Request". In which they still never came, my roommate and I then told 2 different RA's and they told us "It takes a while you might have to put another request in". We had broken closet doors (that were broken when we moved in), we had loose toilet seats, broken dresser drawers and to top it all off green and black mold growing in the bathroom (which I have video of). Again Madison is a great Hall and maybe maintenance was terrible due to COVID I'm not sure. But I would not recommend.
