West Hall

West Hall overall is a quiet dorm. The rooms are nice with suites and private bathrooms, however, there has been an issue with mold and cleanliness. Being on the Vern is a detriment. The common spaces could definitely be improved. more

Thurston Hall

Thurston, because of its recent remodeling, is very nice. Because it is a freshman dorm, there are some things that are kind of not so nice. The communal bathrooms are left a mess very often, and it is usually pretty loud. But overall, it hasn't been a horrible experience, and I have met a lot of cool people in the hall. more

Madison Hall

This dorm had a great location. I was on the first floor so unfortunately there were fewer students because rooms were taken up as office space. Upper floors are better. We had a huge room and a shared bathroom. Our room was up against the building dumpster, which wasn’t great. Control over our AC was great too. more

District House

I live in an affinity space in district house as a transfer and I truly think it is the best dorm situation I could have had this year. The only issues I have experienced are with my floor personally and their cleanliness, but district as a whole is a really great dorm. more

Potomac House

The dorm is Co-ed and it has ten floors and the rooms are two person dorms. There are three lounges in the building. The basement TV lounge houses the community kitchen for the building. There are two study lounges located on the first and second floor of the building. Community kitchen located in the basement of the building Common laundry facilities in the basement of the building Combination-lock mailboxes located per room in the lobby of the building Indoor bike rack located on the first floor of the building. it’s a great dorm as it is close to most things in campus and gets things done:) more

Somers Hall

Nothing was wrong with the dorm building, but the people within will make a huge difference. I'm sure it would be much nicer with people who respect the shared environments. Occasionally we'd have problems with the water being shut off due to student negligence but I don't necessarily fault the building for that. more

South Hall

The cleaning staff are very sweet and do an amazing job. The location is great it's really close to everything. The A/C doesn't work great but that's ok. The main door to my hall can be noisy but that's ok too. Overall it's been a good experience. more

Shenkman Hall

Shenkman has been a wonderful experience. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hallways are clean as well. The location is spectacular and the views are amazing. There are plenty of study rooms as well as multiple dining options in the building's basement. more

Guthridge Hall

It was a great spot if you wanted to still by on Foggy but away from a lot of the inner campus area. Close to the dining halls and Carvings which was great. There are some events that go on behind Guthridge in square 80 which can sometimes be fun - such as the concert put on there. more

Cole Hall

A wonderful hall to live in on the Mount Vernon Campus. It is one of the smallest halls, fitting nearly 40 people, which makes it a very quiet and comfortable living space. The smaller size also allowed for residents to become closer friends and for Cole Hall to form a greater sense of community and comfort in comparison to other halls. more

Merriweather Hall

During my freshman year at GW I lived in Merriweather Hall. The kitchen was always messy because most people refused to do their dishes. The bathrooms were fine, however the water from the faucet always has an odd odor. The best part were the rooms, as they were really comfortable and spacious for the most part. The living area had a weird odor as well and you could tell that the building was not as taken care of as some on the main campus. I would rate the hall a 5 out of 10. more

Amsterdam Hall

It was a great first apartment and we really didn't have any issues but in the last year and a half we've had a bug problem that they keep treating but do not fix. We've tried to handle it on our own too but it's not getting better. Additionally, the maintenance doesn't really fix problems, they just deal with the symptoms so to speak. They're nice but they leave things around after they're done, such as nails or caulking, on the counters or floors. more

Overall, I thought it was a great dorm. It was an ideal location for being a public health major and it was very convenient being right across the street from Whole Foods. Honestly, the only downside was the noise from the musicians at the metro stop; otherwise, it was a great dorm. Also, I really enjoyed the layout because it did not feel like a typical college dorm. more
