Oak View Hall Dorm Reviews at OU

OakView always felt like a home to me. I liked that it was specifically for Honors College students which allowed for it to be its own little community. It often seemed secluded from the rest of campus in a good way that made you feel like you weren't actually on campus.

Great first dorm experience as a freshman. I outgrew the dorm as a sophomore. The dorm offers mini apartment housing but with all of the benefits of a dorm. The dorm has laundry on every floor. The dorm also features a study room or kitchen on every florr.

Oak View houses only students accepted into the Oakland University Honors College. Even though this year has been different due to COVID, I've completely enjoyed the dorm / roommate experience. There are several rooms on the ground floor where smaller honors college classes take place. You can borrow a vacuum from the front desk to clean your room. Maintenance is great. The shower rod in our bathroom fell and broke one evening. We were able to get a replacement the following morning from maintenance. There's a small store on the main floor where you can purchase items from toothpaste to frozen meals to freshly made sandwiches. Laundry facilities are conveniently located on each floor as well as lounges with cooktop stoves. There are several areas to study on the first floor and in various lounge areas throughout the dorm. Freshmen rooms have one large living area that contains two desks and two beds which can be lofted, if desired. There's plenty of closet space for clothes and personal items. Each dorm room has it's own bathroom with abundant vanity storage. Additionally, each room has its own sink, mini fridge / freezer, microwave and storage space for dishes and dry / canned goods. Students with sophomore standing and higher have rooms where each student has their own private bedroom with a desk, closet, and full size bed. These rooms share a large common area with a sink, mini fridge / freezer, microwave, and storage. They also have their own bathroom. The dorm has air conditioning and each room has its own thermostat. There are planned group activities for the honors college, although most of them have been virtual this year due to COVID. The dorm is quiet, even on the weekends. The nearest dining hall is just across the street - a 2 minute walk.

Oak View Hall is very nice, new, and clean. The common areas are okay, nothing special but the rooms are very nice. There is not too much available in terms of activities for the dorm, so make sure that you like your roommate.

I love the Oak View rooms. I was in the upperclassman rooms with my roommate. Because of my roommate's health necessities, we were in a disability accessible room. The room itself was great, but my only issue came when a fire alarm went off in the beginning of the year and the disability accessible room is on the third floor so she was forced to take the stairs.

This semester has been great at Oakview. The rooms are very nice here and everybody, including the staff, are very friendly. Since these are the Honors College Dorms everybody here has the same goal: to work hard and succeed. That helps in making friends because a lot of people here like to study together.
