Farside Dorm Reviews at Purchase

I love this campus but my first year living in Farside was awful. There was definitely mold everywhere, which sparked constant allergic reactions. One stall in the second-floor girls' bathroom was always broken. The laundry room was just awful. It was hot, the dryers didn't dry and only half of the machines worked in total. Plus all of the machines were shared with all three freshman buildings. It smelled so strongly of mildew. There were fire drills every other day, at every time of the day. It was just disgusting.

The building was spacious in that one could easily find privacy to study, and yet the various community centers built within the dormitory allowed for a social camaraderie amongst the various residents.

It was away from other loud buildings. It had great views of the campus and made for a relaxing home. My friends and I felt safe in these dorms because we knew that the staff would keep an eye on us and keep us safe.

My experience at Farside was not very great. The building is very out-dated. There were many fire drills in the middle of the night. There was also always construction outside. Although the location was not that bad.

Overall, I loved living in Farside my freshman year. Moving in was miserable due to parking limitations, the lack of an elevator, and it was a swelteringly hot August day. Also, I was very surprised to learn that there is no sprinkler system in the dorm!

Only a few actual complaints. The water fountain didn't work for a cool few months so I'd have to go somewhere else for a refill, but it was mostly the fire alarms. They don't call it fireside for nothing ig
